Sion Simon MEP joins councillors on the campaign trail

sion_simon_with_bill.pngLabour campaigners recently received a special visit from Sion Simon MEP.

The Labour Party politician, a Member of the European Parliament for the West Midlands, visited Redditch to support the group's local election campaign meeting residents and answering questions alongside Labour's Bill Hartnett.

The council leader said: "We had a great reception on the door step. It was great to meet up with Sion again, I managed to update him on local issues and with our campaign.

"He was particularly interested in our pledges for investing in homes with £1.5M for a mortgage rescue scheme (if people default on the mortgage we can step in and buy the property it then becomes a council owned property but the former owners can stay in the property as a tenant and pay rent) and house buy back scheme where we can buy empty houses on the open market."

This report originally appeared in the Redditch Advertiser on-line on the 8th April.
