Today Rebecca Blake Labour’s General Election Candidate wrote to the government requesting the Education Secretary block the changes to Redditch Schools before it is too late.
Rebecca said “It’s simply not good enough that in the face of such opposition that the Regional Schools Commissioner has given permission for Tudor Grange Academy Redditch to change from a high school to a secondary school and Ridgeway Middle School will become a secondary school.
“This has put other schools in the pyramid under pressure and parents are concerned about what the uncertainty will mean for their children’s education.
“Last year we were led to believe the Department for Education would block the changes if it had a ‘significant knock-on effect on other schools”. Well it certainly does have significant knock on effects and I like many others want this decision blocked.
“Already Astwood Bank First School has announced its intention to become a primary school and if there is any chance of avoiding these unnecessary plans we need the Education Secretary to step in”.
In addition Rebecca pointed out that Pershore schools had recently faced the same changes but good sense prevailed and the plans were dropped. She asked for the same stability to be afforded to the education of children from Redditch.
